Third Mind Notes is a local-first notes and writing app made by Mind Goblin Studios, LLC. We designed it so your notes stay on your device by default.
Your notes stay local
- Notes are stored as plain Markdown files on your device, in the Third Mind Notes workspace.
- Attachments and images are stored as local files alongside your notes.
- On Mac, the workspace is a normal folder visible in Finder (
~/Documents/Third Mind Notes Workspace).
- On iPhone and iPad, the workspace is visible in the Files app under On My iPhone → Third Mind Notes.
- We do not have access to your notes. No account is required to use the core notes features.
Cloud sync (optional)
If you sign in and enable cloud sync, your notes are synced through our sync provider so they can be available across your devices. Sync is off until you enable it. You can stop syncing at any time in Settings.
AI features (optional)
AI chat and AI writing features are optional and only run when you invoke them.
- When you use an AI feature, the relevant note content or workspace context you are working with is sent to the AI model provider you configured (for example OpenAI, via your own ChatGPT account sign-in or API key) to generate the response.
- Your provider credentials are stored securely on your device.
- We do not use your notes to train AI models.
- Provider data handling is governed by the provider's own policies, for example: https://openai.com/policies/privacy-policy/
Analytics and diagnostics
- The app may collect basic, privacy-respecting usage analytics and crash reports to improve the product.
- Analytics and crash reporting can be turned off in Settings.
- We use PostHog for analytics (https://posthog.com/privacy) and Sentry for crash reporting (https://sentry.io/privacy/).
